The Treaty Examiner (TTE) features two kinds of publication: articles and commentaries.

Submit articles

Articles are short publications exploring an issue of international law or dispute resolution. TTE accepts articles in English or Spanish. Articles submitted to The Treaty Examiner must not have been published or be in the process of being published in any other journal, book, magazine or comparable publication, unless the author and/or the editor of the previous publication authorize it expressly.

Citation is required. No method of citation is mandated by The Treaty Examiner but authors should include as much information of the source as necessary to allow readers to find it easily (author, title, editorial or journal, date, page, etc.). Whenever possible, hyperlinks are recommended.

Submit commentary

Commentaries are short publications offering analysis or criticism of recent developments of international law or dispute resolution, including news and case law. Its requirements are analogous to those of articles.

Commentaries must clearly identify the news, case law or similar development they criticize or analyze and, whenever possible, provide a hyperlink for readers to access the material easily.

Submission process

Send your article or commentary to treatyexaminer@gmail.com in a single .docx file. The file must contain the publication itself (including all citations), a small picture of the author, the author’s full name and a brief description of his or her expertise. Attaching your CV or a hyperlink to social media such as Linkedin is recommended.

The Treaty Examiner will review the publication. If any clarification, modification or addition is deemed necessary, The Treaty Examiner will send the article back to you for amendment, unless the change is typographical or otherwise minor.

Publication operates on a rolling basis. Once the article is deemed ready by The Treaty Examiner and receives approval, it will be published on treatyexaminer.com along with a short entry about you in the Authors page.

Terms and conditions of access

Access to the online and PDF versions of articles and commentaries is free and open. Submission and publication are free for authors, who shall not be entitled to any remuneration or royalty for their publication on The Treaty Examiner.

All publications are included in the monthly issue of The Treaty Examiner.

Content policies

The views expressed by authors on The Treaty Examiner shall be deemed to be the views of those authors only and not the views of The Treaty Examiner itself.

If the article contains calls to violence or criminal action, discriminatory views outside academic discussion or similar circumstances, The Treaty Examiner may reject publication stating reasons. Authors whose publications have been rejected are not prevented from submitting new material.

The Treaty Examiner reserves the right to take down publications if ordered by a competent governmental authority, if it is discovered that the article or commentary had been published elsewhere before publication on The Treaty Examiner and authorization to republish was not granted or if the publication is otherwise inconsistent with the guidelines in this page.

By submitting an article, the submitters represent that they are the author of the article or commentary and that such article or commentary has not been published elsewhere or is not subject to third-party intellectual property rights.

Articles and commentaries published on The Treaty Examiner may only be republished in another medium with The Treaty Examiner‘s written approval.
